Italy left-back Emerson Palmieri has revealed he needs to leave Chelsea for more playing time.
The 27-year-old, who was part of the Azzurri’s Euro 2020 squad, has moved to Lyon on loan this season. The news wants to play more and reveals that he almost went to play with Napoli before ending up with the famous French team.
“After the Euros I want to play regularly and feel important. I didn’t play continuously at Chelsea,” Emerson told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Mancini told me at my level. I should be on the pitch as much as possible.”
“I spoke to Spalletti and was given the green light to go to Napoli, I don’t know why the deal collapsed, Lyon offered me a good project and I decided to stay 2- 3 days
“I think it’s the right choice. There’s a youth and unity here and Paqueta, Guimaraes, Mendes and Enrique have helped me adjust.”
“It’s a challenge to win the title because PSG are at a different level. But we’ll try to give it a try.”
Emerson has made six appearances for Lyon in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
